State Of The Art Technology

Computer technology has become a part our day-to-day life. From buying products eBay and amazon to booking holidays online we are relying more and more on digital technology. Dentistry is not any different and at Crescent dental we are happy to embrace this digital revolution.

Long gone are the days of conventional Dentistry and we have opened our doors to new technology and every piece of equipment and tool that will help us perform more accurate diagnostics, safer clinical procedures and reduce trauma and post-operatory healing times.  This inturn increase the comfort for our patients, which is our ultimate goal. This is what Digital Dentistry is all about. We strongly believe that this is the approach that will improve our patients’ quality of life.

Dental Software: Dental Practice Management System

Our Dental Practice Management System is a robust software that manages your entire dental records as well as appointment scheduling. The different modules featured in this system allow us to manage all aspects of your dental treatment with us. We use this software to organise your appointment bookings in a timely manner, prepare 2D/3D chartings of your existing condition and proposed treatment plan, manage your radiology, digital images and documents and process on-the-spot health fund claims.

D4W also allows us to keep your records under strict confidentiality and privacy. As your health and well being is our main priority, the sterilisation tracking number of the dental instruments that are used in the clinical procedures is automatically recorded in your file every time the package barcode is scanned before the clinical procedures commence. This could then be tracked to the exact sterilization cycle thus ensuring strict infection control protocols are adhered to. This software also helps us send reminders of your next appointment with us thus digitizing this step as well.

Our chairs are the latest in European technology. They are ergonomically designed for the patient along with synchronized backrest and leg rest movements, powered retractable footrest and incorporate memory foam cushions, to make the experience very comfortable in every position. Our Dental Treatment Units are fitted with all the necessary features to provide comfort and usability for you during any type of dental procedures, ranging from Implant dentistry to Root Canal Treatment. For ease of communication this chair includes a screen as well as a knee break feature which allows our patients to sit naturally while discussing treatment options with the practitioner.

An important aspect in choosing these chairs was their ease of disinfection and their ability to self-clean their waterlines. One of the main sources of infections from other dental offices is the dental unit water lines (DUWL). The low volume of water and long periods of stagnation allow microbial biofilms to grow to dangerous levels. This contaminated water then enters the patient’s mouth during treatment and can cause infection.

The automatic continuous sanitisation system W.H.E. also guarantees air gap separation from the mains water in compliance with European standards; the system is also DVGW-certified. A combination of Peroxy Ag+ (H2O2) disinfectant and the intense action of the BIOSTER system ensures the highest possible hygiene of irrigation liquids. The chair flushes and cleans the lines daily (and hourly) as part of its inbuilt programs, thus protecting the water circuit against the onset and multiplication of water-borne contaminants such as Legionella.

Infection control is something we take very seriously at Crescent Dental. This includes our state of the art dental chair with computer controlled self-cleaning function to daily disinfection of waterlines with Peroxy Ag+ ions; we go well beyond the standard of care in hygiene.  The state of the artSternweber steam Autoclave and NSK iCare ensures that allof our dental instruments and handpieces have been sterilized and pathogen-free. Our documented sterilization cycle tracking system retains all details of instrument in our secured server and meets Australia’s national Record Keeping Standards. All critical instruments are barcoded and Laser tracked for each procedure.

Our team are qualified in infection prevention and control measures and receive regular training. Infection control measures practiced by our team include:

  • Hand Hygiene
  • Maintaining their vaccination status to communicable diseases
  • Compliance with infection control standards and guidelines when processing reusable instruments, devices and equipment and in all clinical workstations.

Digital Radiology

Gone are the days of Old school traditional Film radiography which is not only time consuming but also a health and environmental risk due to the Silver Halide chemicals used in development of such films. At Crescent Dental we only use digital x-rays that allow a rapid capture of the image, which could be modified and enhanced as well. On top of the image being displayed in mere seconds on the screen there is an added advantage of very low radiation dose, which in most cases is as little as 10% of the dose of traditional x-rays.

Digital Scanning for Prosthesis Purposes

Until recently, dentists used to obtain impressions (also known as moulds) of the patient’s mouth and teeth by inserting a tray containing a gooey-soft material, which often caused people to gag. Even now most practices still use this conventional method of making moulds to be send to a dental lab for crown/denture fabrication. At Crescent dental, we make sure our patients have the best possible comfort during their treatment and therefore we employ the most advanced technology available in the field of digital impression.

Our 3Shape TRIOS® system uses optically assisted laser technology to obtain a full scan of the mouth in real time, as digital model is being built on the computer screen. It has the highest accuracy of any documented scanners available. This digital model is either sent directly to the dental lab via email or is used to produce a 3d Printed model that could be worked upon or sent to the lab to fabricate the prosthesis. (Partial denture/Crown/bridge)

In a recent study conducted at University of Maryland (USA) and University of Freiburg (Germany) the accuracy of leading intraoral scanners in the dental market was evaluated and it was found that the 3Shape TRIOS® was both the most accurate and consistent performer of the all the intraoral scanners tested. This high-precision technology supports the use of CAD/CAM systems allowing us to achieve higher levels of accuracy and reliability in restorations and orthodontic treatments without the risk of contamination from the patient.

CAD CAM Technology

We use state of the art computer designing software from 3 Shape called “Design Studio” used to configure the 3D design of the prostheses and prepare it to be sent to the milling machine. We can design customized crowns, bridges and Inlay/Onlays, suited to your particular needs taking special care of your aesthetic requirements and making sure they fit harmoniously with the rest of your teeth with the help of this software.

Milling Machine:

We design and fabricate our crowns, partial bridges, full bridges, crowns over implants, Ceramix Fillings inlays/onlays, using the most advance CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) technology. This includes state-of-the-art equipment such as the PrograMil OneÒ  5axis milling machine which is capable of using different materials such as acrylic, porcelain, zirconium oxide, e-max to fabricate prostheses over implants or natural.

Once the ceramic prostheses like EMax or Zirconia are milled for a crowns, partial bridges, full bridges, crowns over implants, inlays/onlays, they are heated at very high temperature (more than 1200°C)to crystalize and strengthen the prostheses. For this purpose we use Ivoclar’s Ceramic Furnace, Programatfurnace to carry out a laser sintering of translucent zirconia crowns and bridges.

Computer Aided Shade Measurement

We understand that in today’s day and age you would not want to have veneers, crowns or partial bridges of different shade to your natural teeth especially when it is in the front. Previously shade measurement was very arbitrary and the patients used to rely on the skill and ocular acuity of the doctor. No more guessing when it comes to tooth shade determination now.  This is another advantage of having the 3Shape TRIOS® system which is the only intraoral scanner on the market with in-built shade measurement. We can match the shade of your new prosthesis or veneers to your natural teeth with extremely high precision and confidence with the help of this computer aided technology that we have available for you at our Clinic.

This advanced technology allows us to automatically determine your overall average tooth shade based on a series of measurements, up to thirty on just one single tooth. TRIOS® shade measurement has been shown to be more reliable than the human eye in evaluating patient’s teeth shades. When you factor in possible doctor or assistant eye fatigue as well, then the proven reliability of TRIOS® shade measurement becomes even more significant. This technology also allows us to automatically measure the tooth shade before and after a whitening treatment so that you can appreciate the difference and improvement in shades.

3D Printed Dental Appliances

3D printing brings dentistry into the 21st century. 3D printing – or additive manufacturing – builds up items by depositing materials layer by layer. The technology can create and replicate objects with an intricacy of detail that other manufacturing methods fail to achieve. The advantages for dentistry are that replacements can be created that match the exact grooves and curves desired.Combining scanning of the mouth, 3D modelling and design and 3D printing, dentists can produce their own crowns, bridges and orthodontic devices. 3D printers can also create drill guides for dental implants. Taking a 3D scan of the patient’s mouth, a digital 3D model of the teeth can be generated. This can in turn be used to 3D print models of teeth, gums and even nerves to help dentists as well as patients understand how the procedure would be carried out.The key benefits of the technology are the true personalisation of the models to each individual patient, and the ability to create these in-house.We can ensure the quality of the restoration and Dr.Babi can check on all stages of the work during treatment.  This contrasts most other Dental Practices where your work is sent away to be fabricated and the Dentist has little control.

Being able to visualise a procedure is useful not just for surgeons, but also for the patients themselves. Being shown a highly accurate model replica of their own mouth can help patients understand their treatments, and to know exactly what to expect. And in this way we ensure that with a highly personalised approach, which, alongside greater understanding of their procedure, we would help relieve our patient’s anxiety.

Dental Microscope

We are the first dental practice in Dubbo to offer state of the art microscope assisted treatments. Our teeth are small and it is very difficult to visualize the precise anatomy with naked eyes. A microscope is the best tool to enable detailed examination and improve the accuracy of any treatment that we provide. The increased magnification allows ussee cracks, infections and unusual gum changes at the earliest. Cavities could be removed by preserving as much of healthy tooth as possible.

The integrated Nikon DSLR camera takes photos/videos as a part of yourdental records as well as forexplanation/discussion purposes. The live feed from the treatment is being displayed on the screen, which is strategically located on the ceiling for patients who wish to see the treatment being performed live. Our dental microscope enables the patients to see their mouth, which gives them a better understanding of what’s going on in the treatment process.

Conscious Sedation Technique

We understand that sometimes having a dental procedure could bean anxious experience for some people. Ourconscious sedation techniques, with Nitrous Oxide (also known as ‘laughing gas’ or ‘happy gas’) and Penthrox could be used to make you feel more calmed and relaxed while remaining conscious and responsive.

The administration of Nitrous Oxide is tailored by the dental practitioner depending on your specific needs. Nitrous oxide is the ideal calming young patients for small procedures and the perfect preamble when the procedure requires local anaesthetics. Dental procedures that can be carried out using these techniquesinclude oral surgery, implant placement procedures, wisdom tooth removal, endodontic procedures and restorative procedures among several others. Please feel free to ask our us about the use of Nitrous Oxide/Penthrox; next time you visit our Clinic.

Electronic Apex Locator

One of the main challenges in a root canal treatment is the accurate measurement of the length of the tooth and assessment of location of the apex (which is the tip of the rootof a tooth before it is (unexpectedly) perforated. The Electronic Apex Locator provides takes the guesswork out of the equation and provides a very accurate feedback to the dentist once the file has reached the apex of the tooth and estimate the length of the tooth prior to as well as during the treatment of the tooth.

This equipment therefore allows us to conduct your root canal procedures in a safe and efficient manner minimising the risk of potential perforations, trauma and haemorrhage and reduces the need for unnecessary X-rayexposure.

Rotary Endodontic System

The Rotary System is a new concept in Root Canal Therapy. The number of curves and degree of curvature of a tooth canals represents a challenge for the dental practitioner conducting a root canal treatment. Endondontic files (usually stainless steel or nickel titanium files) are used to clean and shape the tooth canals whilst preparing them to receive the treatment.  Contrary to standard endodontic files, a Rotary System is a vibratory/reciprocating system that provides the flexibility necessary for rotary movements within the tooth canals without impacting or damaging the canal configuration.

This modern technology allows us to conduct your root canal treatmentin a more accurate and safe manner overcoming the challenges explained above.

Zoom Teeth Whitening

Our in-office teeth Whitening/bleaching techniqueinvolves a chemical being applied to the teeth, which is activated with a light-emitting diode (LED). We use the Phillips Zoom equipment to achieve this aim. Our teeth could be stained with multiple factors associated with our lifestyle like smoking, food types and beverages or even genetic factors.

Zoom is one of the most recognised teeth whitening brands in the market and proven to whiten up to eight shades whiter teeth in just one hour.
